Submitted by Karla Kean, horticulture agent, University of Tennessee/Tennessee State University Montgomery County Extension

Geneva Bell and supporters of the Brandon Hills Community Garden Project invite the community to a Block Garden Party to celebrate the becinning of the project.

The garden project will transform an empty lot at the corner of Commerce and Glenn streets into a beauiful space that may creat positive impacts on the Brandon Hills neighborhood.

Volunteers are needed to assist with planting the fall garden

The Garden party begins 9 a.m., Friday and continues through Saturday. Lunch and snacks will be served to volunteers.

Volunteers should bring gardening tools, open hearts and open minds

Clarksville, as well as other communities in Tennessee, is facing issues of at-rist youth and yound adults.

Community gardens tranform empty lots into green, living space that can discourage inappropriate action and anti-social behavior in youth.

These green spaces are collaborative projects created by members of the community in which residents share in the maintenance and rewards of the garden.

Within U.S. cities there are an estimated 10,000 community gardens. The simple act of planting a garden can create positive environmental, economic and social impacts on a neighborhood.

Community gardens foster cultural understanding and awareness of the environment around us.
