It is the intent of the Mt. Olive Cemetery Historical Preservation Society to encourage local as well as statewide population to preserve and maintaining their history through education and promotion

 MOUNT OLIVE CEMETERY PRESERVATION SOCIETY

As PLANNING OUTLINE

 In an effort to better understand the Mount Olive Cemetery Preservations Society's intentions regarding the preservation of Mount Olive Cemetery, the following Planning Outline has been developed.  All planned actives will be at no cost to the city or county of Clarksville, Tennessee.

Tentative Plans for 2005

       I.      Ask the City to except land and lease it to the Mt. Olive Cemetery Trustees (Agreed)

A.       Meeting with Park and Recreation (01-18-05)(Done)

B.       Meeting with finance committee (Approved)

C.       Full Council for Vote   2-05 (Approved)

D.      Land Survey of the Mt. Olive Cemetery

 

   II.      Go to Washington D.C. for Information on U.S.C.T Troops in Cemetery (Done)

A.     Spring Break

B.     Raise Money with ROTC Students (weekend of the 15 March and April at Kroger on Ft. Campbell Blvd.)(Done)

C.     Goal of $1,100 (for Air Fare, motel, transportation while in D.C., and food)(Done)

 

III.      Work in Cemetery at least 4 times

A.     1st Weekend in February during Black History Month with Triple Nickel, youth and church organizations (Done)

1.      Others date will be set throughout the year

 

IV.      Consider Coordinating Activates with other Historical Preservation groups (Done)

 

   V.      Look for new members (Done)

                                                                              

VI.      Create Web Page (Done)

 

VII.      Get Quote for Fences (Fence the Gully Off)

Complete underground survey at cemetery

 

VIII.      Fundraising for other  insurances (appt. 750.00)

 

IX.      Other plans to raise funds for Mt. Olive Cemetery (Ongoing)

A.  Sale t-shirts

B.  Take part in Riverfest (have a booth

C.  Make a Difference Day (plan to be part of that day)

D.  Take part in the mall at Christmas (wrap gifts)

E.  Apply for all grants we are eligible for

  

FIVE-YEAR PLAN

 Complete Historical Site Ground Penetration, (more than halfway done)

 I.          Remove all unwanted materials from inside perimeter with in one year.   (more than half way done)

II.               Remove small trees, bushes, and unwanted materials from the property with  in two years (more than halfway done)

III.             Fill  in  all sucken graves with dirt, (have started)

IV.            Put markers on unmarked graves

V.               Do intensive research on soldiers in cemetery (Have Started)

VI.            List Historical Site on the National Register

VII.         Acquire $100,000,000 Liability Insurance on the 7.3 (Done).

VIII.      Install additional "No Trespassing" signs to discourage public use, and install barrier to entrance; until site is deemed safe for public. (Done)

IX.            Apply for insurance,  (Done)

X.               Create Website for educational purposes, volunteer enrollment, and fund-raising. (Done)

 

TEN-PLUS YEAR PLAN

 

I.                    Acquire adjoining land for public parking and or picnic area.

II.                 Install Formal Signage announcing Historical Site

III.              Continue fund-raising programs for maintenance, marketing.

IV.              Place a fence around said site; also put a gate at entrance to site. 

  

Our goal is being able to share Clarksville history with any one from any where in the world, as well as the possibility of a bird sanitary, a walking trail and put on the city of Clarksville’s tour list plus, schools will be able to benefit from the site. What a wonderful opportunely for our city!
