Our Mission
Brandon
Hill Youth Heritage Garden is a community project serving the needs of
youth at risk. Our Mission
is the education of at-risk youth on how to provide healthy food choices
for themselves and their families.
We strive to give the youth a sense of accomplishment and
achievement through growing their own foods. We teach them how to care
for living things.
Our Goals and Objectives
· Engage
the local community in efforts to reclaim their neighborhoods by turning
empty lots into beneficial spaces which reflect the cultural identity of
the people who create them.
· Restore
African-American and Latino-American youths’ lost agriculture heritage.
· Increase
overall vegetable consumption by providing fresh,
delicious food.
· Provide
gardening activities which give youth productive, educational and
confidence-building activities.
· Increase
daily recreation (physical fitness) and social interaction with older
youth and retirees in the community.
